And now… this

Katla hasn’t been posting much these two weeks… But it’s not like I have been idle all this time because lo and behold: Keppeki Shounen chapter 2 update, yay. I love this chapter and I love Yui! He’s too cute! But you do get the feeling that the weirdoes are gathering around Sata… Of course he’s the greatest weirdo himself so I guess it’s only fitting. Also I can really relate to Sata’s parents (^_^;)

You can find the new chapter under the projects page. Sigh, ever time I read it I found a new mistake… I hope I finally got rid of all of them. But Tengil (my proofreader) does a great job I think, I don’t know what I would do without him.

Relating to the previous post, I realised that while it’s true that I really like Kurosawa as he is, I actually also like male characters who can’t be honest (with their feelings), it may be conflicting but… You know the ones who have a sharp tongue but actually are nice (tsundere). Like Natsume in Gakuen Alice and Toboe in Kamisama Hajimemashita etcetera. I know it’s kind of cliché but we need clichés too. At least I do… (And that’s why we love shoujo manga?)

Oh wait, most genres are filled with clichés. What’s interesting is how you use those clichés and make something interesting or funny or touching or whatever you want it to be and hopefully create something that has something special to it. I think that some things are worse than others (I hate weak heroines for example) and after you’ve read a lot of manga inevitably you will find a lot of it boring. But there’s no need to read the boring stuff. There’s so much out there so let’s read the good stuff and ignore the rest.

Also thanks for all the nice comments! It really makes me happy x2 (quoting Aiuchi).

I don’t know I’m doing honestly but I guess I’ll learn along the way…

By the way I’m happy that so many seem to like Keppeki and Say “I love you”. Actually the latter seem to be much more popular, to download at least… And to think so many others than me noticed her hairstyle, I had no idea… I think the main characters are very important to why I like it so much. Mei isn’t the dumb helpless girl that unfortunately is so common in shoujo. And Kurosawa is actually a nice, considerate guy, not some idiot who bullies the girl he’s secretly in love with. I like guys who are kind but not stupid… And if they’re kakko ii too so much the better \(^_^)/.

And Keppeki Shounen… I don’t know why but I feel an affinity with people who like Keppeki…

I’m relieved that the quality of the scans seem to be good enough… I’ll try to keep it up while not taking too long.

Also I fixed an email address so you can contact me. So if you have any questions about hosting and such please send me an email so I have a chance to reply.

First Release!

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008

Hi, I’m Katla. Welcome to my (extremely) humble scanslation site. I know it’s lame at the moment but as I’m new to this it can’t be helped. I wanted to prioritize the actual scanslations first. I will probably do something new later on…

Since it is the opening of this site I’d thought I’d celebrate by uploading the first chapters of both of the manga I intend to scanslate at the moment. First is Keppeki Shounen Kanzen Soubi by Touya Tobina which I’ve roughly translated to Cleanliness Boy Fully Equipped (with ethanol, mask and gloves that is). The main-character, Sata Senda, makes Michael Jackson seem sort of normal… But he has a heart of gold of course, although annoying. I admit that the first volume is like an introduction to the characters, but in my opinion it’s a very funny one. Thus far two volumes have been released, and I don’t know if there’ll be any more. But they are definitely worth a read, at least according to me. I think it’s refreshing with a shoujo with a male lead and Aiuchi (his love interest) is cute so maybe this is something guys could like as well?

The other one is manga called Say “I Love You” or Suki tte Ii Na Yo by Kanae Hazuki, it’s about a girl who doesn’t have any friends but gets noticed by one of the popular guys in school and her life starts to change… I can tell you this, I didn’t buy this because of the description because it sounds pretty lame and so typically shoujo. I bought it because of the cover or more accurately because of the girl’s hair on the cover. I thought it was a really cool hairstyle… I know it’s a weird reason to buy a manga but it turned out to be a good choice, because I actually loved it. What I like about it is the atmosphere which I can really relate to. Especially in junior high, when I absolutely hated school. Not that my situation was as extreme as for the characters in this manga, I wasn’t bullied or anything like that, but still I had to be with people I didn’t like five days a week. The thing was you weren’t allowed to be different, or say your opinion because if you did you could be sure someone would bring you down. School at that period was about keeping a low profile and avoiding conflicts and the guys who tried to grope you. Man I’m glad I don’t have to go through that again, I’m not good at keeping a low profile…

The releases will be under the projects page so please check them out.

And if you have any comments I’d love to read them. It can be corrections or opinions, just keep things civilized and everything will be great. I don’t mind if you have anything to complain about when it comes to the quality of the translations or the editing because that can help me to improve. I’m kind of a perfectionist but I have to suppress that since I’m kind of new to editing. I have to stop somewhere or else the chapters will never be finished.
